He has worked for several government agencies, including the Executive Office of the President of the United States, the Florida Senate’s Committee on Higher Education, and for the Governors of Illinois and Alaska. He has owned and operated his own communication research and consulting firm for over 30 years. He also has managed or consulted to over 150 political campaigns, with well over a 90% success rate. Dr. Bill McConkey teaches and has taught Leadership and Organizational Studies, Communication, and Political Science courses at several universities. He is currently a lecturer for the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, as well as a professional speaker, trainer and consultant.

Bill McConkey and his wife spend their time in Door County, Wisconsin, and on a small farm in the hills of Tennessee.

Bill exhibits a level of erudition that makes a colleague proud. In the course of one hour he quoted Winston Churchill, Dag Hammerskold, Alice in Wonderland, plus several others. He models a level of sophistication and general knowledge that demonstrate to students the value of learning. He extends the classroom beyond the topic of the day to the broader issues faced by people over many years and in many places. The result is a generalized respect for learning and an awakening to a larger world. The Churchill quotation won’t be on an exam, but it will occur to students the next time they think about alliances and missions, and they will see their current actions in a larger context. That window to a larger world may be Bill’s greatest gift to his students.
